We are ALL God’s Kids!  God’s “Plan of Life” is:  The Family!  You are loved . . . and it just gets better . . . if you do it the Right way!  The windows of Heaven are opening with NEW ways to “Strengthen Families – Physically” . . . which we will share with you very soon, + many other ways!

Is life hard at times?  Life is just like going to school.  The first thing you get is a “Test!”  Yes, we are here in this world to be tested . . . because that is the way that we grow Spiritually, Mentally, Physically, Socially, and Financially.  So, keep positive, never give up, Endure to the End, Choose the Right, what you do matters . . .. and will affect your life!  Don’t make bad decisions that can hurt or stop your progression.  If you have or have had a problem . . . go to The Lord, Jesus Christ, and let Him Forgive and Heal you!  He can do it!

Thank you for listening and in joining us to “Strengthen Families”.  Stay involved and send us any suggestions and/or ideas on ways you may have to help!   Stay in touch by going to our various sites and sharing your ideas with us.  Email us: staff@thefamily.com, or write to The Family.com, P.O. Physically  (Tips For Family Fitness)

1. Limit sedentary activities such as television, video games, and computer time to 2 hours per day. Remember, TV commercials encourage children to crave the foods they see!

2. Parents should limit their own time in front of the television. This will set a good example for their kids, as well provide increased interaction time.

3. Parents and children should exercise, such as doing sit-ups, push-ups or running in place, while watching television (or at least during commercials). Discourage snacking or eating meals while watching, as well.

4. Plan weekend family activities involving exercise, such as swimming, bicycling, mini-golf, tennis, or bowling.

5. Help your child plan group activities with their friends or plan activities with friends and neighbors, such as skating or hiking.

6. Have your kids brainstorm a game plan of indoor activities such as jumping jacks, Simon Says, or mall walking for rainy or bitterly cold days.

7. Remember that your family does not need to join a health club or buy fancy equipment to be active. Walking is inexpensive and easy. So is designing a backyard obstacle course. Weights can be made from soda or detergent bottles filled with sand or water!

8. Provide positive rewards for your child for engaging in physical activities, such as workout clothes, a new basketball, or an evening of roller-skating.

9. Provide positive feedback about your child's lifestyle changes. Remember not to focus on the scale (for you or your child).

10. Be your child's "exercise buddy." Plan daily walks or bike rides. Set goals together for increasing physical activity not for losing weight.

11. As you schedule your child's extracurricular activities, remember to plan time for exercise and activity as a priority for the entire family. Don't just "squeeze it in."

12. Encourage children to try individualized sports such as tennis and swimming. Studies show such activities are the basis of lifelong fitness habits.

Financially

“The Apostle Paul stated, ‘I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content’ (Philip. 4:11). Contentment and gratitude are essential if one is to be truly happy.

The ability to be content was one of Benjamin Franklin’s greatest traits. It had a profound impact on his life and upon the new nation he helped to found. Author Catherine Drinker Bowen writes of Franklin: “He was forty-two when he retired. … Had Franklin stayed in business there is little doubt he could have amassed a fortune … the kind of estate built up in America by royal governors. … Once assured of a competence, he showed no desire for increasing it; Franklin never changed his simple style of living and seemed to have no ambition for outward show.”

For Franklin, “outward show” was dangerous. He said: “The eyes of other people are the eyes that ruin us. If all but myself were blind, I should want neither fine clothes, fine houses, nor fine furniture.” He knew time is the one thing that is purchased by not spending money.”   “The Cost of Riches,” Lynn G. Robbins, Ensign, June 2003, 24

Mentally

It is important to exercise the brain as well as the body this summer.  "Educators consider summer reading very important in developing life-long reading habits, in maintaining literacy skills and in promoting reading for pleasure. Studies have repeatedly shown that children who continue to read during the summer months perform better when school resumes in the fall.”   --Jim Cornish, Classroom Connect, May 2003

Visit your local library with your child for suggested summer reading lists, and then read together.

Spiritually

“Be Humble!  Recognize that everything you have—your time, your talents and skills, your health and energy, your accomplishments, and your very lives—comes as free gifts from your Father in Heaven.  How grateful we ought to be for His goodness to us.  How humble we ought to be to think that He knows who we are, and that He is waiting to guide our every step.”  --Hinckley, Gordon B. Hinckley. (2002). Way to Be! Texas: Simon & Schuster, Inc.

Socially -   (Here’s a fun way to get the family together!)

Game: Flash Light Freeze Tag   -  From Rachel Woods

Object of the Game: To have all 10 lives or to know where everyone else is hiding.

Items Needed: A group of 4 or more and a flashlight.

Preparation: Turn off all lights except for a little one, such as a night light.

Directions: One person is 'it' and the other people start with 10 lives. The 'it' person counts to 30 and everyone else hides in the dark. The person who is 'it' gets the flashlight and tries to find the others by touching them with the light from the flashlight. When a person is "found" with the light they must yell out their name and say they are caught. The person found with the light also loses a life but can hide again if they have more lives.

Once a person has no more lives the game is over and they become "it".

Notes:

    * You can play in the dark, or outside.

    * Younger children can team up with an adult or older sibling so they won't be afraid.

Variation: When a person is found and yells out their name and, "I'm caught," the "it" person must tag and freeze them. Other players have to unfreeze that person by tagging them. Once unfrozen, they can hide again. If the "it" person is able to freeze everyone they win and a new person becomes it.
