Welcome to Lesson Three on “How To Become a Zion People”
Again I state that this “quest” is a work in progress. I do NOT pretend to be all knowing having all the answers. But, when I find those things we MUST do in order to achieve this goal, I share them.
If we are to be of “One Heart”, “One Mind” and there are “No Poor Among us”… then let us remember these scriptures:
D&C 59:1 BEHOLD, blessed, saith the Lord, are they who have come up unto this land with an aeye single to my glory, according to my commandments.
2 For those that live shall ainherit the earth, and those that bdie shall rest from all their labors, and their works shall follow them; and they shall receive a ccrown in the dmansions of my Father, which I have prepared for them.
3 Yea, blessed are they whose feet stand upon the land of Zion, who have obeyed my gospel; for they shall receive for their reward the good things of the earth, and it shall bring forth in its astrength.
4 And they shall also be crowned with blessings from above, yea, and with acommandments not a few, and with brevelations in their time—they that are cfaithful and ddiligent before me. Ether 12:6 Moroni said: … I would show unto the world that afaith is things which are bhoped for and cnot seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no dwitness until after the etrial of your faith.
Ether 12:27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their aweakness. I bgive unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my cgrace is sufficient for all men that dhumble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make eweak things become strong unto them.
28 Behold, I will show unto the Gentiles their weakness, and I will show unto them that afaith, hope and charity bringeth unto me—the fountain of all brighteousness.
41 And now, I would commend you to aseek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, which beareth brecord of them, may be and abide in you forever. Amen.
Joseph McConkie, a scripture scholar, recently reminded me that “those faults and weaknesses that we had in the pre-existence came with us when we were born into this earth life. And, those tendencies and weaknesses that remain with us here in this life will follow us through the resurrection. It is so much better to lose those faults and change for the better while we have blood in our veins in this world!”
54 Yea, will ye persist in supposing that ye are better one than another; yea, will ye persist in the persecution of your brethren, who humble themselves and do walk after the holy order of God, wherewith they have been brought into this church, having been asanctified by the Holy Spirit, and they do bring forth works which are meet for repentance—Repent, for except ye repent ye can in nowise inherit the akingdom of bheaven! Moroni 8:25 And the first fruits of arepentance is bbaptism; and baptism cometh by faith unto the fulfilling the commandments; and the fulfilling the commandments bringeth cremission of sins. We need to look at our lives and change those things that we can for the better. It takes time.
We tried to Strengthen our country and make changes for the better. Personally, I feel that America has been taken down the wrong path by President Obama and the Democrats in Congress, which is why it's critical we elect fiscally-responsible conservative leaders in November who will repeal this bill and restore commonsense principles to healthcare. We need to do the same in our personal lives. God has given us commandments that, when followed, will benefit our lives. These instructions from God help us live a happy life. When we choose to follow God and keep His commandments, we grow in wisdom and strength of character. We can experience joy even in times of trial, and we can face life’s challenges with a spirit of peace. In the scriptures, we learn that true happiness comes from obeying the commandments of God (Mosiah 2:41) and that “wickedness never was happiness”
Remove any wickedness from your life! A Zion People have “NO Desire to do anything of an evil nature!” Do you watch movies and things on TV that are violent, crude, or wrong rated? What about those video games that take so much time that are causing many of our youth to express themselves with violence! Is your language Christ like without guile or cursing? Do you live the laws of chastity as the commandments and scriptures have stated? Are there things in your past that have NOT been repented of with the Lord and your Bishop? God delights in chastity and hates sexual sin. Chastity includes strict abstinence from sexual relations before marriage and complete fidelity and loyalty to one’s spouse after marriage. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony and to be reared by a father and mother who honor marital vows. As you obey the law of chastity, you will enjoy more fully the influence of the Holy Ghost in your life. Those who break this law are subject to a lasting sense of shame and guilt that burdens their lives, however, through sincere repentance and application of the Atonement, they can find forgiveness which brings a peace of conscience and a fulness of Joy (Mosiah 4:3).
Chastity requires faithfulness in thought and action. You are to keep your thoughts clean and be modest in your dress, speech, and actions ( Matthew 5:27–28) . You must avoid pornography in any form and treat the God-given procreative power and your body as sacred gifts. You are not to participate in abortions or homosexual or lesbian relations. Men and women who are living together but are not married may not be baptized without first getting married or separated. Those who are married to more than one person at a time may not be baptized.
God wants you to follow His plan of reserving intimacy for marriage to help you and your family find happiness, deepen marital love, and protect your family (“ The Family: A Proclamation to the World”) .
God has given you agency—the ability and opportunity to choose between good and evil. When you obey God by following the influence of the Spirit and choosing to conform to His will, you demonstrate your love for Him. Disobedience will bring you sorrow. Heavenly Father knows your weaknesses and is patient with you. He will bless you as you strive to obey His commandments.
God revealed to Moses the Ten Commandments to guide His people:
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me” ( Exodus 20:3).
“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image” ( Exodus 20:4).
“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain” ( Exodus 20:7).
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” ( Exodus 20:8).
“Honour thy father and thy mother” ( Exodus 20:12).
“Thou shalt not kill” ( Exodus 20:13).
“Thou shalt not commit adultery” ( Exodus 20:14).
“Thou shalt not steal” ( Exodus 20:15).
“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” ( Exodus 20:16).
“Thou shalt not covet” ( Exodus 20:17).
The Ten Commandments are still valid today, and they teach everyone to worship and show reverence for God and how to treat one another. Obeying the Ten Commandments blesses individuals, families, and communities. Once you understand the commandments, you must have the courage to obey Him, even if it means giving up something you want very much. Your loving Heavenly Father will bless you for your obedience with “peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come” ( Doctrine and Covenants 59:23).
You may think that it is too late! It’s NOT! Isa. 1: 18 says:
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
May the Lord Bless us ALL as we strive to become closer to HIM and Zion!
